Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told Axios on 1 Sep that Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will comply with the FDOT order but has no plans for a broader overhaul. That is state-road compliance. It is not a countywide Deflock.

On Thursday 8 October the Board of County Commissioners held a work session in the Palm Room, 333 Chestnut Street, Clearwater. First item was “Overview of Automated License Plate Recognition Deployment” (26-1501A). Florida Politics reports the sheriff presented for more than an hour. Commissioners did not take formal action Thursday on Commissioner Vince Nowicki’s proposal to end county ALPR contracts, subscriptions, and data-sharing and remove cameras from county-controlled roads and rights-of-way. Bay News 9 (Spectrum) reports the sheriff told commissioners the county has 79 stationary cameras from several vendors (Motorola, Axon, Flock) and that the Flock Safety contract costs $287,000 per year. He said he supports tighter audits and new rules from the Legislature. After the session Commissioner Nowicki said it was clear most of his colleagues did not want to end the ALPR contracts, and Commissioner Rene Flowers said she is comfortable with how the sheriff's office uses the system. Ahead of the session: on 30 Sep the sheriff announced charges against two former deputies accused of misusing law enforcement databases, including plate reader searches, to pursue romantic interests (Bay News 9). Tampa Bay 28 reports the sheriff called the office’s earlier plate reader audit approach inadequate, said a media inquiry led to the deeper review, and plans closer checks for repeated searches of one plate. Commissioner Vince Nowicki said he filed a resolution to end county ALPR contracts and data-sharing with Flock, Axon, and any other ALPR vendor, pull ALPRs from county roads and county-controlled right-of-way in 30 days, bar new deals, ask the sheriff and cities to follow, and require a 60-day staff report. Speed and red-light cameras are not in that filing. He said he expected it at the 10 Sep regular meeting. That meeting was held. The Final Sep 10 Board of County Commissioners agenda (printed 27 Aug 2026) listed no Flock, ALPR, or license-plate resolution among its 30 items. Legistar minutes for MeetingDetail ID 1428835 are Final as of Tue morning 6 Oct 2026; the published minutes PDF is still not available. The Sep 10 action list shows no Flock, ALPR, or license-plate resolution. The filing remains filed, not voted. A filing is not a vote. PCSO still uses Flock, Axon, and Vigilant.
