The governor called license plate readers "out of control" at a Miami presser. He did not announce a ban, a pause, an executive order, or a bill number. His office told Florida Politics there is no intel yet on a special session.

Contract expired · policy review · not a new vendor
The city's Flock contract expired about 23 Aug 2026. At a Tuesday council meeting, members stopped short of signing another surveillance company and ordered a review of the city's ALPR policy. For now the story says Santa Barbara has no automated license plate cameras operating. That is an expiration plus a policy review, not a posted swap to a new vendor.

Tempe said it shut down its Flock network and plans to terminate the contract. The city said it would not replace the system with another provider. Cameras may stay visible until Flock removes them, but the city said they are no longer collecting plates. That is a shut-down and a planned terminate, not a vendor swap.

City Council voted 5-2 to end the Flock contract. It rejected calls to stop all automated license plate readers. Axon dashboard cameras on police cruisers remain. Ending Flock is not ending every plate reader in the city.

Indianola police announced about 17 Aug that they were suspending the Flock contract. Waukee also decided to suspend the service this month. Those are local suspensions, not a statewide pull, and not listed here as a passed Iowa bill.

ALPR limits have passed in Washington, Virginia, Kentucky, New Mexico, Oregon, Connecticut, Idaho, and Arkansas. California SB 274 was vetoed; SB 1013 is still live. Florida has not enacted a 2025-26 ALPR bill. There is no federal ban.
